Transition to Adulthood

TRANSITION CLIFF

(1) refers to the extreme lack of support and services available for people with disabilities once exiting the school system

(2) the transition from high school into adulthood, which parents have often described as "falling off a cliff"

CONQUER THE TRANSITION CLIFF WITH CONFIDENCE

School's out forever and decisions shape futures

But how do adults and parents choose the option that’s best for them?

When helping your child make the transition into adulthood, there are a lot of variables and factors that go into making the post-high school option that’s best for your family. Inclusive higher education programs are on the rise and all over the news, but does your child want to go to college?  Is your child comfortable living away from home in a college environment? Are you comfortable with that? Are you prepared to research and teach all the needed independent living skills on your own? Are finances a constraining factor? Or maybe everyone is simply feeling burnout after graduation and taking a year off before jumping into another program is the next best step for your family.

We believe the path your family chooses is the best path, however that may look!

Our resources are designed to bridge the transition cliff and give neurodiverse people confidence toward a more independent future. Whether you’re a parent supporting independent living skills at home, are a private service provider working 1:1 with clients, or you work for a community-based or college transition program with small groups of students, Accessible Adulthood resources break down classroom walls to provide evidence-based, real-world experiential learning for the transition to adulthood.
